Today I wore: a cashmire short-sleeved polo sweater from Old Navy (of all places), a khaki pencil skirt from H&M (with pockets!), and black low-heeled wedges from Macy’s.
This look is another attempt to look “business casual”. I love the pop of color in the top, as it is a color that I would not normally choose for myself. Another thing I like about the sweater is the relaxed cut mixed with the luxurious texture. The shoes aren’t really stylish, but they are comfortable enough for lots of walking, which is important in my line of work. If I could tell you how many times a day I run up and down a set of creaky stairs…
This necklace is one I’ve been wearing often since graduation, as it was a gift from Nathaniel’s family. His sister picked it up while in Florence for Spring Break. I love that she picked out something so simple, delicate, and classic for me! It goes with so many outfits and I find myself reaching for it more often than not.

“Yeah, Dad, I know my hair looks funny. Shut up.”
I am wearing: a NY&Company grey pinstriped pencil skirt, a plain white crew neck tee-shirt from H&M, a vest from JCPenney and those famous red shoes.
This outfit looks “office-to-nightwear”. The nightwear aspect is mostly acheived by the strand of pearls, and the plain tee instead of a button down. I like to wear vests with pretty much anything: they can be boho-chic with a dress, office smart with a skirt or artistic cool with jeans. Plus, I get a half seventies vibe from them because of my thoughts of those tacky three piece suits (which actually, in the right fabric, can be quite smashing!). The shape of the neck of the vest also makes a big difference: I feel that a v-neck makes a vest more casual if worn open, or looks really sharp under a suit jacket. A round-neck can be worn without the feeling of a suit being hinted at; at least the one I have on feels more suit-ish even without the other pieces.
One of my favorite ways to wear a pencil skirt is to downplay it by wearing a very plain tee-shirt with it. That way it’s just the very up-front contrast of colors, uncomplicated by the specific cut of the shirt paired with it, leaving you to accessorize plentifully.

These are a strand of fake pearls, which no one should do without, since they can be wound around the neck, knotted, left at their fullest length, etc. These earrings were cheap and I liked the unusual color for a rose, and way they are discreet enough to not take over anything else that’s going on. And they technically match the theme of “flowers” I made with my hair barrette/pin. The contrast of colors between my shoes, hair accessory and earrings.
(Also I hope it distracts from the super-short would-be pin-up bangs.)
Today, I cut my own bangs.

Hence no photo.
Even though my outfit is just boring enough to distract from the self-inflicted horror, which no one is ever present to discourage me from, I am not posting a photo today.
Instead, here are some thoughts about leggings.
They are fine under short skirts, some above the knee dresses, tucked into boots so that they look like tights, as sleepwear bottoms (as long as they are not made of nylon alone), instead of long underwear in the winter under pants.
They are not okay when as long as the skirt/dress, instead of pants (they are hosiery, not pants!) in public (this includes the gym where others work out).
I feel that when people wear leggings instead of pants, they are proclaiming to the world that they are a) lazy, b) skinny enough to pull it off, or c) ignorant that they forgot to put on a skirt.
And that is just a legging induced rant, created from seeing legging clad girls for four years in college.
My rules are pretty much the same for tights, stockings and thigh highs, since those are also hosiery.
